The National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Joseph Yammin, has sparked intense debate with his recent statement that Ghanaians’ trust in the NDC’s ability to fight corruption is dwindling. This comment has generated arguments, with some supporting his concerns and others believing it is too early to make such assertions.
According to Emmanuel Alex Nti, a political analyst, in an interview with Plan B 104.5 FM’s Ebanosen, Yammin’s statement serves as a reminder to the NDC of its promise to combat corruption.
Alex Nti emphasized that Ghanaians expect the NDC to deliver on its anti-corruption agenda, especially since corruption was a key factor in the NPP’s loss of power.
He also noted that, although over 40 days have passed since the NDC took office, tangible progress is expected, particularly as the appointed ministers are still settling in. However, he cautioned that Yammin’s statement may be premature, suggesting that the National Organizer is “rushing things.”
Despite this, he expressed confidence that the NDC will fulfill its promise to fight corruption, citing the completion of the ORAL team’s work and the pending involvement of the Attorney General.
This development comes amid President Mahama’s recent asset declaration, which has reignited discussions on Ghana’s asset declaration laws and their effectiveness in combating corruption.
