NDC polls: Process skewed in one way – Kojo Bonsu backs Duffuor, calls for postponement

NDC polls: Process skewed in one way – Kojo Bonsu backs Duffuor, calls for postponement
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

A flagbearer aspirant of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Kojo Bonsu, has backed a request by his colleague aspirant Dr Kwabena Duffuor, for the May 13 presidential and parliamentary primaries to be postponed.

Dr. Duffour filed an injunction application at the Accra High Court seeking to stop the elections over concerns about the electoral album.

Among the reliefs, the former Bank of Ghana governor is seeking a declaration that the photo album register issued by the party is incomplete and inaccurate and that the party be ordered to prepare and deliver a complete and accurate photo album register to all the presidential aspirants, at least, five weeks ahead of the elections, to enable the aspirants to carry out the needed verification of the photo album register.

Commenting on the ongoing brouhaha on Kumasi-based OTEC FM, Mr Kojo Bonsu said he was in good company with Dr Duffuor’s reservations.

Mr Bonsu noted that “this is not a fight, they have to rectify it and they have to postpone the date of the election and rectify it.”

Asked what he would do if the party does not postpone the elections, the former Kumasi mayor answered: “It’s entirely up to them because the elections and processes are already skewed in one way but let us do the right thing, otherwise, some people might go to court.”

Answering the question about “who will go to court”, Mr Bonsu noted: “Members of the party will go to court after the elections.”

He added: “If there are anomalies, we cannot say everything must be 100 per cent but at least plus or minus should be about two per cent errors but this is about 40 per cent errors and serious errors…”

Mr Kojo Bonsu and Dr Kwabena Duffuor are contesting former President John Dramani Mahama for the flagbearer position of the NDC ahead of the 2024 elections.
