The Majority Caucus of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Parliament has called for the immediate cancellation of the party’s parliamentary primary held in the Ayawaso East Constituency, following allegations of vote buying during the exercise.

In a statement dated February 8, 2026, and signed by Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, Mahama Ayariga, the caucus said it had taken note of widely circulated claims of electoral malpractice in the just-ended primary in the Greater Accra Region.

The caucus strongly condemned the alleged conduct, describing it as inconsistent with the NDC’s broader agenda to reset the country’s politics and restore public confidence in democratic processes.

According to the statement, the decision follows extensive deliberations by the core leadership and the extended leadership of the caucus. As a result, the caucus has resolved to formally communicate its position to the Functional Executive Committee of the NDC.

Among the key recommendations is the annulment of the Ayawaso East parliamentary primary with immediate effect. The caucus also wants any candidate found, after due process, to have engaged in vote buying or other unethical practices to be disqualified from participating in any subsequent primary election held in the constituency.

The Majority Caucus reiterated its commitment to safeguarding integrity within the party and Ghana’s democratic system as a whole, stressing that unethical practices would not be tolerated.

The statement ends with a call for decisive action to reinforce discipline and credibility within the party.
