Selorm Avedetsi, an NDC communicator for the Ningo-Prampram Constituency, has expressed surprise and confusion over the decision by the Movement for Change, led by Alan Kyerematen, to transition into a political party named the United Party (UP).
Speaking on Nkosuo Nsem on Plan B FM, Mr. Avedetsi said he does not understand the ideology behind the move, describing it as misleading to the Ghanaian people. According to him, the name “United Party” has historical links to the roots of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), dating back to the UGCC era, and therefore reusing it suggests a return to NPP traditions rather than a new political direction.
He argued that since Alan Kyerematen was a former member of the NPP, adopting the old NPP name is “like deceiving Ghanaians” into thinking the party represents genuine change.
