Selorm Avedetsi, NDC Communication Team member for Ningo Prampram Constituency, has expressed concern that internal elections are driving the monetisation of politics.
In an interview on Plan B FM’s Nkɔsoɔnsɛm show hosted by Obidehyeɛ Kofi Sekyi, Avedetsi noted that the current system gives an unfair advantage to those with deeper pockets, sparking fears of undue influence and corruption.
Avedetsi contrasted the current system with the past, where communal efforts drove development projects like self-help electrification and rural feeder roads without monetary inducements.
He attributed the problem of monetisation to political democracy, particularly internal elections, and advocated for reforms to allow all card-bearing members to participate in voting processes, eliminating the dynasty system.
Furthermore, Avedetsi lamented that influential party figures often push their wards into advantageous positions, which he believes is detrimental to the party’s health.
“Almost all ‘big men’ of the various parties have pushed their wards into vantage positions which is not helping,” he said.
