The Tema Metropolitan director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Mrs. Gifty Agyeiwaa Badu together with Tema West NCCE director Mr. Fidel Bortey urged the citizenry to fully participate in the upcoming district-level elections to sustain grassroots growth, development, and a path for achieving democracy through decentralization.

Speaking on Plan B FM morning show ‘Nkosuo Nsem’ with Nana Yaw Abrompah, the Tema West NCCE director Mr. Fidel Bortey underscored the need for the populace to continue to live by the principles and dictates of the 1992 Constitution to entrench democracy towards active participation in governance which provides an opportunity to build the society and also get a fair representation at the various District Assemblies.

He said participation and interest in the elections, had so far been low, considering the elections are a couple of months away.

He described the situation as worrying because the district assemblies play a critical role in sustaining democratic governance as it form the basic unit on which national structures rested.

He stressed that the Commission on citizens week celebration educates the public, especially school children to straighten them to become good people and leaders in the future and also participate in upcoming district Assembly level elections.
