The National DRIP Coordinator, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, has seized a backhoe belonging to the Obuasi West Municipal Assembly, which was being utilized for an unauthorized purpose.

This action took place on the Obuasi-Kumasi highway, where the machine was found with a malfunctioning hydraulic valve.

During questioning, the operator claimed to have received instructions from an engineer at the assembly.

However, the National Coordinator, not satisfied with this explanation, called upon the Obuasi police to arrest the operator and secure the machine for further investigation.

He emphasized that any misuse of equipment managed by the Secretariat would not be tolerated, warning that any officer who permits the use of such machinery without the approval of the district roads management team and the district coordinator would be held financially responsible for its servicing and maintenance.

Furthermore, he encouraged the public to take an interest in the proper use of these costly national assets and advised the assemblies to exercise patience until their operators receive the necessary training before they are entrusted with the equipment.

He assured that training programs would commence shortly in all regional capitals.
