The starting of construction of the National Cathedral in the country by the ruling New Patriotic Party NPP sparked numerous controversies and accusations from politicians, some believers, and the majority of Ghanaians over the design, location, and cost involved in the building of the Cathedral which got many to talk about it.
General overseer of Captain Jesus Prayer Ministry, Prophet Isaac Ofosuhene Agyimah on Plan B FM morning show Nkosuonsem on Wednesday 15,2023, the Prophet revealed that, majority of Ghanaians are calling for a halt in the construction of the National Cathedral but it seems the government has refused to listen to the call from by the people.
“The voice of the people is the voice of God so if you are refusing to listen to your people, can the holy spirit dwell in the Cathedral after completion”? He added.
The Prophet advised the government that it is good to fulfill the promise he made to God but has to consider the current economic hardship people are facing and listen to their cries.
On the other hand, the member of Parliament for North Tongu Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has led a spirited campaign against the construction of the Cathedral and said the one-year suspension of the project is incurring huge costs to the taxpayer.
Speaking to journalists, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said the over one billion dollar project would not materialize hence the need for the government to abrogate the project and dissolve the board of trustees.
“On the occasion of the first anniversary, since the project was abandoned, we are saying that it is time for President Akufo-Addo and the Board of Trustees to cut their losses.
They should abrogate this contract, close the shop and ask the contractors to go home, particularly at this time.”
It is desperately looking for money and yet the government is refusing to abrogate this national cathedral project, which can become a pipe dream, a project which clearly cannot materialize”
Despite claims that the 5,000-seater cathedral project is a wasted priority, the government claims it will bring new skills, technology, and jobs to the country and act as a beacon to national, regional, and international tourists
