Napo rejects claims of plot to engineer dumsor in Ashanti Region

I Will Lead My Kumasi People On Demo If Ken Ofori-Atta Allocates Funds For Keta Sea Defense Project – Energy Minister

Former Energy Minister and former New Patriotic Party vice-presidential candidate Matthew Opoku Prempeh has strongly denied allegations circulating in a viral social media video claiming he and some NPP Members of Parliament in the Ashanti Region paid officials of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to deliberately cause power outages in their districts.

In a statement, Dr. Opoku Prempeh described the allegations as “entirely false, malicious, and without any basis in fact,” insisting that neither he nor any NPP MPs were involved in such actions.

He further expressed concern over the potential consequences of the claims on ECG engineers and officials, warning that the accusations could expose them to public anger, intimidation, and possible harm due to what he called “deliberate misinformation.”

The former Energy Minister disclosed that he has instructed his lawyers to begin legal action against the radio and television station involved, as well as the presenter responsible for the claims. According to him, the lawsuit will seek to compel the parties to provide credible evidence to support the allegations or face legal consequences.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh also criticised what he described as attempts to politicise Ghana’s ongoing power sector challenges, arguing that the focus should rather be on finding lasting solutions to the crisis.

He stressed that Ghanaians deserve honesty, accountability, and leadership committed to solving national problems instead of creating distractions through false narratives.
