The director of the National Disaster Management Organizations NADMO at Biakoye district in the Oti region Mr. Henry Danso has appealed to the government to resource them to enhance the delivery of their mandate as expected.
Mr. Danso in an interview on Plan B FM morning show NKOSUONSEM hosted by Nana Yaw Abrompa, the NADMO director bemoaned the nonavailability of logistics hindering their work.
“We the NADMO personnel in the hinterlands are suffering, there is only one motorbike in the district how can we work with it? we need a car to work effectively to save lives, give us some of the seized cars at ports to enhance the work”.
He also stated that disasters happening in the country are a result of human activities, he said the frequent cutting down of trees and pollution that has affected the ozone layers contributed to recent floods in the country. He then called the Forestry Commission to tighten the Green Ghana policy to protect our environment from future occurrences.
“Though we are in the rainy season and we will soon enter into the dry season we must be careful not to do anything that can cause a fire outbreak.
He said the Disaster Management and Prevention unit assists in the planning and implementation of programs to prevent and/or mitigate disaster in the MMDAs within the policy framework of national policies.
As part of its preventive role, the unit assists and facilitates the education and training of volunteers to fight floods and fires, etc.
The Disaster Management and Prevention unit ensures that there is an adherence to rules concerning private and public properties to ensure adequate protection against disaster.
