The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has announced intensified operations at nightclubs, entertainment venues, pubs, and public gatherings nationwide during the festive season.
According to a statement issued by the Commission, the initiative is part of efforts to combat drug abuse, trafficking, and the distribution of illicit substances, especially during periods of increased social activity.
The festive season is often associated with heightened risks of narcotic use, prompting NACOC to step up surveillance and enforcement to safeguard public health, safety, and security.
Operations will be carried out in collaboration with other law enforcement and regulatory agencies, focusing on detecting and preventing the sale and use of illicit substances, ensuring compliance with national narcotics laws, and educating patrons and operators on the dangers of drug abuse.
NACOC has urged venue owners, managers, and event organisers to cooperate fully with authorised officers and take proactive measures to maintain drug-free premises.
The Commission also called on members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity related to drug use or trafficking.
PNCO Francis Opoku Amoah, Acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations at NACOC, assured that operations would be conducted professionally, respecting human rights while maintaining a firm stance against narcotic-related offences.
NACOC said that by working together, venue operators, law enforcement, and the public can ensure a safe, healthy, and enjoyable festive season.
