The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has announced enhanced security screening procedures for passengers departing through the Accra International Airport.
According to GACL, the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) is conducting pre-screening checks at the entrance to the Departure Hall before passengers proceed to check-in.
Under the new measures, all departing passengers will be required to have their luggage screened at the entrance to the departures area before gaining access to the Departure Hall.
The screening will be conducted using scanning machines and sniffer dogs as part of measures to strengthen security at the airport.
GACL said such pre-screening procedures are also conducted at several international airports worldwide.
The airport operator has therefore advised all departing passengers to arrive at least three hours before their scheduled departure time to allow sufficient time for security screening, check-in and other boarding formalities.
It further announced that access to the Departure Hall is restricted to travelling passengers, and non-travelling persons will not be permitted entry.
GACL said it appreciates the cooperation and understanding of passengers and airport users as it works with security agencies to strengthen security and ensure safe, secure and efficient airport operations.
