Most floods are as a result of poor engineering works- NADMO Director

The Director of the National Disaster Management Organization NADMO in the Oti Region in the Mempeasem District Mr. Henry Danso has said that the recent flood occurrences in the country are a result of poor engineering works.

Speaking on Plan B FM morning show NKOSUONSEM, with Nana Yaw Abrompah, Mr. Danso explained that sometimes city authorities ignore their works and allow individuals to build their houses on waterways and others also settle in waterlogged areas.

This was in reaction to the relentless 3-hour downpour over the weekend in the Volta Region, Ho, where several areas of the city were submerged in floodwaters.

The excessive rainfall led to the overflow of major drainage systems, exacerbating the situation.

Numerous stores and residential areas have experienced the impact of the flooding, with some residents forced to evacuate and salvage their belongings from the swift currents.

Fortunately, the floodwaters have receded and the intensity of the rainfall has lessened.

However, there remains a prevailing concern among residents regarding the potential occurrence of a more severe rainstorm and the subsequent threat of flooding.

Other residents were also seen screaming as they look helpless while their properties were submerged in the floodwaters.

Mr. Danso then urged the general public to be mindful of the areas they build their houses and also keep their drains clean to enhance the free flow of rainwater to avoid flood.
