In the 2021 Ghana School of Law admission exams, 28% of LLB candidates were accepted into Ghana’s only legal training institution.
The exam, which was held earlier this year, was passed by 790 out of 2,824 candidates.
With the exception of 2020, where 1,045 students out of 2,763 passed the admission exam, the pass percentage is consistent with previous years.
Only 128 students out of a total of 1,820 candidates passed the exam in 2019.
In 2017, 500 students were accepted into the School, compared to 450 in 2016.
The low pass rate has prompted calls for legal education reform in Ghana in the past.
According to critics, the General Legal Council obstructs people’s access to legal education on purpose.
Successful candidates must acquire a minimum of 50% in order to be admitted to the Ghana School of Law for professional legal study.
