Hon. Richard Aning, a communicator for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged political actors to avoid blaming the Electoral Commission (EC) for election losses without concrete evidence of wrongdoing.
Speaking on Ebaano Sen, an evening programme on Plan B FM, Mr. Aning said parties and candidates must take responsibility for monitoring electoral processes at the local level rather than accusing the Commission of manipulation after defeat.
According to him, situations where voters transfer their registration from one location to another or are mobilised across constituencies should be carefully monitored by party officials. He argued that a failure to regulate and scrutinise such activities at the polling level should not later be blamed on election officials.
“If you fail to organise and protect your electoral ground, you cannot turn around and accuse the EC of cheating,” he said, adding that allegations must be backed by evidence and pursued through legal channels instead of relying on assumptions.
He called on political stakeholders in Ghana to allow the law to take its course where genuine electoral breaches are identified, stressing that unfounded accusations could undermine public trust in the electoral system.
Mr. Aning emphasised that political parties must strengthen their internal monitoring systems to ensure credible electoral outcomes
