Former Black Stars player and 1978 Africa Cup of Nations winner Mohammed Polo has described the Kurt Okraku-led Ghana Football Association (GFA) administration as the best Ghana has ever had, while expressing concern over the poor results recorded under the administration.
According to Polo, the quality of administration under Kurt Okraku should be recognised, but the performance of Ghana’s national teams, particularly the Black Stars, has failed to reflect the progress expected from the country’s football governing body.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s Pae Mu Ka Sports with Okocha, Polo said the results recorded since Kurt Okraku assumed office have been disappointing despite his positive assessment of the administration.
Polo’s comments come amid renewed scrutiny of the GFA and the Black Stars following the team’s recent poor run of results, including the 4–2 defeat to The Gambia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The former Black Stars player said the latest setback should prompt serious reflection on the direction of Ghana football and the factors responsible for the team’s declining performances.
He also questioned the circumstances surrounding the departure of former Black Stars coach Carlos Queiroz, insisting that there should be a clear reason for the decision.
Polo further raised concerns about the treatment of former Black Stars players, claiming that some of the country’s former footballers feel neglected despite the sacrifices they made for Ghana.
He said some former players are struggling and believe they have not received adequate support after their playing careers.
Polo also made allegations against the GFA administration, claiming that some executives have benefited financially while Ghanaian football continues to face challenges.
The former Black Stars star additionally suggested that spiritual factors could be contributing to the national team’s poor performances, although he did not provide evidence to substantiate the claim.
His comments add to the ongoing debate over the administration of Ghana football and the future direction of the Black Stars following their recent disappointing results.
