Minority Did Not Give Earlier Notice For Presentation Of Petition – EC

The Electoral Commission (EC) has responded to why it’s office refused to receive the petition from the Minority Caucus in Parliament on Tuesday, December 23, 2020.

According to the Commission, they did not intentionally refuse to receive the petition but rather, the insufficient time frame regarding notification prior to the submission resulted in the unfortunate.

In a statement sighted by Plan B FM, it read “For the record, the Electoral Commission wishes to inform the General Public that it did not receive prior notice of the said presentation of the petition from the Minority Caucus “.

The Commission continued that ” Indeed the Electoral Commission later learned that the Minority in Parliament delivered the said letter informing the Electoral Commission of its intended presentation scheduled for Tuesday, December 22nd at 10:08 this morning”

“The letter gives the start time of the said presentation as 10:00 am, giving the Commission no notice to receive the Minority Caucus given that the chairperson and her senior team were not in the office”, the statement added.

Concluding, the Commission said it’s leadership respects Ghana’s institutions, a key one being the Parliament of Ghana.

Therefore the Commission and it’s leadership would have been available to receive the petition if the office was informed earlier of the development.
