The Ministry of Health has escalated a case involving alleged medical misconduct at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba in the Central Region to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Attorney General’s Department.
This action follows an investigation by the Ghana Health Service (GHS), which uncovered serious misconduct by certain hospital officials in relation to the death of a patient who was transferred to Ojobi, where she was abandoned until her demise.
In a statement issued by the Health Ministry on Wednesday, October 2, the GHS investigation concluded that the employees involved failed to act appropriately, contributing to the tragic outcome.
The committee overseeing the inquiry recommended internal disciplinary actions against the staff involved. However, the Ministry of Health has opted for further investigations, citing the gravity of the incident and the resulting loss of life.
To ensure thorough accountability, the Ministry has requested the Attorney-General’s assistance in determining the culpability of the staff and pursuing any further legal action. Additionally, the matter has been reported to the CID for criminal investigation.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the highest standards of healthcare delivery, promising to prevent the recurrence of such tragic incidents in the future.
