The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ghana has announced the successful rescue and repatriation of twenty-eight Ghanaian nationals who were victims of a sophisticated human trafficking network operating in Côte d’Ivoire.
According to a press release issued on May 10, 2026, the operation was carried out through a coordinated effort involving security operatives and officials of the Embassy of Ghana in Abidjan.
The Ministry revealed that the victims, predominantly young people, were rescued and safely returned to Ghana on Sunday. Authorities say the victims are currently assisting with ongoing investigations aimed at dismantling the trafficking network and identifying those behind the operation.
Government also commended Ivorian authorities for their collaboration and intelligence-sharing, which contributed significantly to the success of the operation.
The Ministry urged Ghanaians to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to fraudulent trafficking schemes often disguised as travel or employment opportunities abroad.
It further cautioned the public against dealing with unlicensed recruitment agencies and advised individuals to verify all overseas job and travel offers through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment Relations, or Ghana’s diplomatic missions abroad.
The statement added that the Mahama administration remains committed to dismantling human trafficking networks and ensuring that perpetrators are brought to justice while prioritizing the welfare and safety of Ghanaians.
