A miner is counting his losses at New Edubiase in the Adansi South District of the Ashanti Region after being swindled by a colleague in a GH₵98,000 gold deal.
The complainant, Simon Nyarko, also a miner from Tarkwa–Akyempim, told police that he and the suspect, Emmanuel Opoku, a native of New Edubiase, have been in business for the past two years.
According to the complainant in a police situational report sighted by MyNewsGh.com, both set off from Tarkwa-Akyempim on a motorbike, and upon reaching Dunkwa Junction, they stopped to sell a quantity of gold, realizing an amount of GH₵98,000.00 from the sale.
He gave the said amount to the suspect to keep in his bag, and they then proceeded to New Edubiase, the suspect’s hometown, to familiarize himself with his family members.
On their way, the complainant handed over his motorbike to the suspect to ride since he was not conversant with the road.
Upon reaching New Edubiase, the suspect parked the motorbike in front of a certain house at Asamenya, a suburb of New Edubiase, and asked the complainant to wait for him, stating that he was going to collect his key from his wife, and has since not returned.
The suspect went away with the motorbike, the money, and the complainant’s mobile phone.
All efforts made to trace the suspect proved futile, compelling him to lodge an official complaint with the police.
The police indicate that they are on a hunt for the suspect to assist with investigations.
