Michael Essien Joins Fc Nordsjaelland Coaching Staff

Ghana legend Michael Essien has been unveiled as a player-coach at Danish SuperLiga side FC Nordsjælland ahead of the 2020/21 season.

Essien left Azerbaijani club Sabail in July and moved on to the FC Nordsjælland in order to complete his coaching badges as he looks to remain in football once he officially retires.

The club who hold several Ghanaian talents due to their affiliation with the Accra-based Right to Dream Academy was seemingly impressed with his impact and offered the 37-year-old a role as for the upcoming season.

“We’ve experienced Michael Essien as both curious and hungry for knowledge before and after the training sessions, but at the same time also contributing and giving among the players during training,” head coach Flemming Pedersen said.

“His career and experience speak for itself but when you add his humble and giving personality, this is an exceptional opportunity for us to get a person added to the staff who can help make our environment developing for our players and also add valuable input to the coaching team and be our hand on the training pitch.”

Essien won nine major titles with Chelsea over nine seasons and amassed 58 caps for the Black Stars between 2002 and 2014.
