MASLOC Retrieves Three Gov’t Cars From Chairman Wontumi – CEO Confirms

Chairman Wontumi receives report on cause of NPP’s ‘abysmal’ performance in 2024 elections

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Abigail Elorm Mensah, has disclosed that the Centre, with support from National Security operatives, has retrieved three government vehicles from the residence of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on Wednesday, September 10, Mensah explained that the action formed part of a broader initiative to recover government loans and vehicles from defaulters.

“I have gone with National Security operatives to the house of the Chairman of the NPP in Ashanti Region, Chairman Wontumi. Three cars. In fact, the cars were five. We’ve retrieved three. I have collected all from his house. We are still chasing him for the two. He has to pay for them,” she revealed.

The MASLOC CEO noted that, under the Centre’s operational procedures, individuals who fail to meet repayment obligations or misuse government vehicles are required to either return the assets or settle their outstanding debts.

“What we do is that once I seize the cars, the agreement we have with you is that you would have to repay whatever has accrued and we release the cars to you,” she said.

Mensah added that several cases of asset misappropriation have already been reported to the police as part of efforts to safeguard public property.

“We’ve reported a lot of the issues to the police,” she confirmed.

Citing another example, Mensah recounted an incident involving a relative of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who allegedly refused to return a government vehicle—a Nissan Urvan—after acquiring a new one.

“I have a situation where a brother of former Vice President Seidu Imoro picks a car and he is bold to tell us that ‘well he has used the car to work and he’s bought his own, so if we want we could come for it.’ So we’ve seized it,” she stated.
