A man from a small town in north-western Germany on the Dutch border lost his bearings so badly in the “big city” that he could not find where he had parked his car – for three weeks.
The 62-year-old parked in a multi-storey car park in Osnabrueck, a city of some 165,000 residents, at the beginning of February then rushed to an appointment.
“I don’t know how many times we have been to Osnabrueck looking for it [the car],” his daughter said on Wednesday.
There was no parking ticket with the name of the car park, and the barrier was open as the parking ticket machine was not working, according to the daughter.
Her father had driven from his home in Bentheim, Lower Saxony, to Osnabrueck for an appointment on February 3. When he got to the city, he hurriedly looked for a car park in the city centre, drove in – and afterwards could not remember where the building was, she said.
Over the past three weeks, father and daughter have checked out many car parks in Osnabrueck: In the area concerned, there are at least 15 car parks, inclduing underground ones.
A call to the media finally led to success on Wednesday: A kind citizen contacted the police, who followed up on the tip-off, according to the daughter.
The car was found in the car park of a hotel in the city centre.
The daughter said: “It’s best he doesn’t go to Osnabrueck anymore, but stays with us in the small town.”
