Man dies after falling into well at Ada Kasseh

Family Fumes As Dubai Firm Buries Nigerian Man Killed In Factory Accident Without Their Knowledge

A man believed to be in his 20s met his untimely death on Tuesday afternoon after falling into a well at Kasseh in the Ada East District, while attempting to fetch water to take his bath.

Eyewitnesses said the cement slab used to cover the well reportedly gave way while he was fetching the water, causing the victim to lose his balance and fall into the well.

An eyewitness who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said the concrete cover also fell into the well and landed on the deceased, leaving him trapped and unable to free himself.

Information gathered by the GNA indicated that it took the rescue team nearly an hour to retrieve the victim from the well.

The incident has left residents in shock and renewed concerns about the safety of uncovered and poorly secured wells in the community.

Some residents described the scene as horrific and blamed the incident on the failure of property owners to properly secure or maintain wells on their premises.

Some residents said they immediately contacted the Ghana National Fire Service and the assembly member of the area, but it reportedly took some time before the rescue operation was completed.

They added that the young man was still breathing when he was pulled out of the well but unfortunately died on the way to the hospital.

Community members urged authorities to intensify surveillance and ensure that landlords, landladies, and owners of wells or boreholes properly cover them to prevent similar tragedies.

Mr Ebenezer Tetteh Kpodo, the Assembly Member for the Kasseh Electoral Area, described the incident as unfortunate, noting that many wells in the community were old and required reconstruction or proper reinforcement.

He urged residents to report unsafe wells in their neighbourhoods, encouraging them to take photographs or videos of such facilities and share them with his office, to enable the authorities to take appropriate action against their owners.
