A 26-year-old man has been shot dead at a galamsey site at Betinko, in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.

The incident occurred on Thursday, February 6, 2025, when the deceased whose name was given as Asamoah Isaac, together with his brother and a friend went to a galamsey site to mine.

At about 9:30pm that fateful day, the deceased was shot in the left side of his rib by an assailant, whose name was not immediately known, who had laid ambush at the site while they were returning home.

The brother of the deceased, who was with him, quickly rushed to the Police at Betinko to report the incident.

The suspect was quickly apprehended by the police, and assisting in investigations.

According to multiple sources, the deceased had been threatened by the suspect with a locally manufactured gun on many occasions after he (deceased) had cheated on the suspect in one of the booties from their illegal mining activities.

“The three were returning from a galamsey site at that time, and he was attacked by the suspect. The suspect shot him in his rib, and he died on the spot,” a source disclosed to DAILY GUIDE.

Again, it was gathered that the suspect happens to be a security officer at a mining site, and has been allegedly allowing the deceased and his group to mine at the site at odd hours without the knowledge of his superiors.

“In one of their errands, the deceased refused to give the suspect a share of his money, which infuriated the suspect to warn the deceased on several occasions. He (deceased) took the threats from the suspect lightly, and has resulted in his demise,” a native of Betinko spoke to DAILY GUIDE on condition of anonymity.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Frimpong-Boateng Medical Centre for autopsy and preservation while investigation continues.
