Bamako: The chief of staff of the head of Mali‘s junta was among four people killed in an attack on a government convoy on Tuesday. The news of Oumar Traore‘s death was revealed by a document from the presidency on Thursday.
According to reports, Traore was killed in the ambush on Tuesday. The incident took place around 400 kilometres north of the capital Bamako near the Mauritanian border. Notably, the area is known for jihadist insurgents.
Accordinig to reports, At least four people were killed after the attack on a Malian government delegation near the border of Mauritania. Several others were also reportedly misisng after the attack. An official delegation heading was heding for Nara.
“An official delegation heading this morning for Nara was indeed attacked. There are at least four dead and some missing. Tensions are still high in the region,” a local administrator had told AFP.
There has been a political and economic crisis since 2012 after jihadist and separatist insurgencies broke out in the north of the African country.
Mali has been rued by a military junta since 2012. The military junta is now led by Colonel Assimi Goita. The junta has pledged to establish democracy by March 2024 due to an international pressure.
