Assistant Divisional Officer 1 Rommel Otoo, Safety Officer at the Motorway Fire Station in Tema, Greater Accra Region, has advised the public to avoid stumbling and create walkways in their rooms for a safer tomorrow in case of darkness.
Speaking to Nana Asabea on Plan B FM’s Nyansapɔ Fie show, ADO1 Otoo said that whoever stumbles in their room during darkness should know they have not arranged their rooms well and could cause an accident, which is likely to lead to home fires.
“People should know that electrical switches left turned on, even when not in use, waste electrical energy and cost us,” he disclosed.
On her part, Assistant Divisional Officer II Judith Otabil, from the Tema Regional Fire Safety Office, urged everyone to switch off their electrical gadgets before leaving their homes to avoid fires caused by high voltages during electrical power fluctuations.
However, she noted that fridges could be an exception if they have built-in guards that regulate power consumption, and therefore can be left on even when one is outside.
