A member of the Ningo-Prampram Communication Team for the ruling NDC, Selorm Avedetsi, has emphasized the need for Ghana to strengthen and maintain the stability of the cedi to support national development. According to him, the foundation of every country’s progress is its financial stability, and Ghana must continue to safeguard the gains made in recent years.
He noted that the cedi has seen a period of relative stability under the current administration. However, sustaining this stability requires deliberate measures, especially in boosting production and reducing corruption.
“Our economy relies heavily on the export of raw materials. The more we produce and export, the more our currency can be stabilized,” Selorm stated. He added to that corruption continues to be a major setback, draining state resources and weakening investor confidence.
Selorm made these comments during an interview on Nkosuonsem, addressing public concerns regarding the cost of goods in the market. He acknowledged the general sentiment that although the dollar rate has reduced, prices of goods remain high. He explained that to see a real reduction in prices, the country must enhance local production and ensure transparency in the supply chain.
He concluded by urging policymakers and citizens to prioritize productivity, accountability, and economic discipline to protect the strength of the cedi and promote sustainable national development.
