President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled the GoldBod Taskforce and promised a 10% reward to anyone who provides credible information that leads to the recovery of illegally mined gold or its cash equivalent.

The announcement was made on Tuesday, July 8, during the taskforce’s official inauguration at the National Security Secretariat in Accra.

“Whistleblowers will receive 10% of the value of any seized gold or cash recovered from illegal activities. So if you report and help us recover gold or money, you will be rewarded,” Mahama stated.

The president highlighted that the taskforce is a clear demonstration of his administration’s strong commitment to combat gold smuggling and corruption in Ghana’s mining sector. The unit is made up of specially trained personnel from the National Security, military, and other key security agencies.

Mahama explained that taskforce members have undergone thorough vetting, polygraph tests, and training on relevant mining laws, alongside team-building and anti-corruption workshops to ensure high standards of professionalism.

To maintain transparency and accountability, all taskforce operations will be monitored closely. Officers will wear body cameras during fieldwork, and vehicles will be GPS-tracked in real-time. No operation will commence without written authorization from the CEO of the taskforce.

“This oversight will prevent abuse and ensure every action is lawful and ethical,” the president stressed.
