Mahama Nominates Five to Ghana’s Fiscal Council
President John Dramani Mahama has nominated five individuals for appointment to Ghana’s Fiscal Council, in line with provisions of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921), as amended.
The nominations, announced in a statement issued by Presidency Communications on April 8, 2026, are aimed at strengthening fiscal oversight and promoting prudent public financial management.
According to the statement, the nominees include Dr. Emmanuel Oteng Kumah as Chairperson, alongside Prof. Patrick Opoku Asuming representing academia. Leslie Dwight Mensah has been nominated as a representative from a research think tank.
The other nominees are J. Kweku Bedu-Addo, a former public policy expert from the Ministry of Finance, and Dr. Henry Kofi Wampah, a former Bank of Ghana official.
The Fiscal Council is expected to play a critical role in ensuring fiscal discipline, enhancing transparency, and guiding sound economic decision-making.
The statement, signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Presidential Spokesperson and Minister for Government Communications, emphasized that the council will help reinforce financial oversight and promote fiscal prudence in the management of public resources.
