Local Government Minister Mahama Ayariga has inaugurated a Steering Committee for the Accra Green and Clean City Initiative as part of efforts to improve sanitation and promote environmental sustainability in the capital.
The initiative seeks to strengthen collaboration among government institutions, communities and citizens to keep Accra clean, green and environmentally sustainable.
In a statement following the inauguration, Mr Ayariga stressed that building a cleaner Accra requires more than good intentions, emphasising the need for collective commitment, effective coordination and sustained action.
He noted that the responsibility of maintaining a clean city extends beyond government and requires the active participation of institutions, communities and individuals.
According to the minister, the initiative will serve as a platform to promote improved sanitation practices and create a healthier environment for residents.
Mr Ayariga underscored the importance of a coordinated approach to addressing sanitation challenges, urging all stakeholders to work together towards achieving a cleaner and more sustainable capital.
The Accra Green and Clean City Initiative forms part of broader efforts to improve urban sanitation and environmental management, with public participation expected to play a key role in its success.
