Some residents along the Accra-Tema motorway made away with several cartons of fresh fish after a truck loaded with tons of fish toppled over on the Tema-Accra stretch of the motorway.
The incident which occurred on Saturday, September 12 at about 1400 hours, saw the driver of a Burkina Faso truck with registration number 11 HN 6102 allegedly losing control, an occurrence said to have been the cause of the accident by an eyewitness.
The development caused the blockage of the road bringing vehicular traffic on the Tema-Accra stretch to a standstill lasting about 8 hours, till the truck was pulled off the main stretch by the MTTD of the Ghana Police Service.
While some were busily seen helping to offload the fish onto another vehicle, others were also salvaging what was left of the goods on the truck.
Indeed a section of residents were also seen jubilating and subsequently lugging the fish from the accident scene to their homes.
Speaking to Plan B FM, some of the residents disclosed that the reason for their jubilation was the fact that there were neither death nor injuries but instead, free fish for all and sundry present at the scene.
They continued that, even though there was a scramble for fish from the truck, they had at least helped the driver secure more than half of the goods onto another vehicle hence justification for them to take the remainder home.
The Motor traffic and transport division of the police is yet to provide further details on the incident.
The Accra-Tema motorway has been a hotspot for accidents over the past few days, with citizens worried about the craptastic condition of the road not forgetting the poor lighting at night on the stretch.
