Lomachenko Defeats Richard Commey By A Unanimous Decision In New York

Ukrainian superstar, Vasily Lomachenko, delivered a boxing masterclass against Richard Commey, outclassing the Ghanaian in their showdown at the Madison Square Garden on Sunday.

Both fighters lost their respective lightweight titles to Teofimo Lopez at the same venue a couple of years ago, and were looking to stake another claim for a world title shot.

Commey started the bout strong and aggressive in round one, landing a couple of big shots, but that perceived dominance didn’t last long.

The Ukrainian, Lomachenko, slowly took control of the fight from the second  round, with his hard jabs and incredible speed, which looked difficult for Commey to deal with.

The trend continued in the next few rounds, forcing Commey to resort to wild punches which Lomachenko easily evaded.

The first breakthrough came for Lomachenko in the 7th round, as he expertly executed a brilliant series of combination shots, ending with a hard left into Commey’s jaw, dropping the Ghanaian.

Commey struggled to contend with the pace and movement of the former undisputed lightweight king, as Lomachenko continued to dominate.

The Ghanaian switched things up in round 8, landing a couple of power shots forcing Lomachenko to back off slightly.

But that was about the only positive round for Commey, who went on to lose the bout by unanimous decision, with the judges scoring it 117-110, 119-108, 119-108 all in favor of the Ukrainian.

Lomachenko now looks primed to face George Kambosos Jr for a chance to become undisputed lightweight king.
