The unavailability of theatre tables has compelled the Othopaedic directorate of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in the Ashanti region, to suspend emergency services
Announcing its suspension of the emergency service to clients of the hospital, KATH in a memo dated October, 29, noted that, due to the lack of theatre tables, the hospital management said it has become inevitable due to their inability “to operate on the already admitted emergency cases.”
Information reaching Tema base Plan-B FMP is that patients who have been scheduled to have their surgeries done at specific dates have had to wait for more than two weeks which has subsequently resulted in backlog of cases.
A source at the hospital has hinted this news portal that the hydraulics systems of the tables have been dysfunctional for well over two years. The source continued that the situation has on a number of occasions resulted in some patients almost falling of the theatre tables.
“I can tell you that the situation has seen some of the doctors use other theatres for their surgeries and added that several complaints by the doctors have not yielded any results.
