The Majority Leader in parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has undoubtedly sparked massive stir, debates and arguments across all social media platforms after his brilliant reply to Speaker of parliament, Alban Bagbin over the road Minister, Kwasi Amoako Atta’s directive to closedown all tollbooths after presentation of the 2020 budget finally popped up.
Not long ago, the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta took the privilege to present the 2020 budget to parliament for approval as the unexpected happened when the incumbent government ordered for the closure of all tollbooths across the various regions in the country.
Even though the tollbooths was a source of employment for both physically challenged and some hawkers across the various checkpoints, it seemed the roads and highways Minister didn’t take such factors into consideration but went ahead to shutdown all the tollbooths in the country even though parliament hadn’t approved of the 2020 budget yet.
With respect to this, the Speaker of parliament took the privilege to share his opinions and thoughts over the road and highways Minister’s initiative to closedown all tollbooths across the country whilst emphatically revealing that, Kwasi Amoako Atta had no right to take the law into his own hands as he disrespected parliament’s authority.
In addition to that, the speaker of parliament, Alban Bagbin recently directed the roads and highway Minister, Kwasi Amoako Atta to reverse his decision to suspend collection of road tolls.
Upon Alban Bagbin’s recent directive to the Roads and Highways Minister popped up, the majority leader in parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu unexpectedly took the privilege to send another brilliant reply to the Speaker of parliament on why the road and highways minister decided to abolish the collection of road tolls after airing of the 2020 budget.
According to Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, the roads and highways Minister, Kwasi Amoako Atta issued the directive for the abolition of toll collection in other to prevent further confusion and misunderstanding after the 2020 budget presentation.
“Immediately after the delivery of the 2020 budget, confusion arose at the various tollbooths. To avoid further escalation of the confusion and chaos at the tollbooths, the minister in other to save the situation came with that directive. The minister acted to safe lives and properties that is why the directive was not about the suspension of the law. The minister could not suspend the law, he only dealt with the operationalization of the law in place” Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu emphatically revealed.
