Kwahu Traditional Authorities reject recognition of Eugene Asante Boadi as Kwahuhene

Kwahu Traditional Authorities reject recognition of Eugene Asante Boadi as Kwahuhene

Traditional authorities in the Kwahu Traditional Area have strongly objected to the public presentation of Eugene Asante Boadi as “Kwahuhene” during an official ceremony to welcome President John Dramani Mahama to the Eastern Region on May 1, 2026, as part of his “Resetting Ghana” tour.

Addressing the media on behalf of the Okwahu Akyɛame Kuo, spokesperson Nana Yaw Asante described the development as “deeply unfortunate, misleading, and provocative,” insisting that Mr. Boadi no longer holds any customary authority in Kwahuman.

According to him, Eugene Asante Boadi—formerly known in stool affairs as Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II—was lawfully destooled as Omanhene of Kwahu in October 2024. The removal, he said, followed allegations of extortion, conflict of interest, and conduct deemed detrimental to the dignity and reputation of the Kwahu Paramount Stool.

He stressed that since his destoolment, Mr. Boadi has neither participated in nor appeared at any official traditional function in Kwahuman in the capacity of Kwahuhene.

“As custodians of the traditions, customs, and authority of Kwahuman, we state unequivocally that Kwahuman does not recognize Eugene Asante Boadi as Kwahuhene,” Nana Yaw Asante said.

The spokesperson also referenced earlier reports by Graphic Online and the Daily Graphic in October 2024, which linked Mr. Boadi to allegations of collecting bribes from a businessman seeking a loan facility from the Agricultural Development Bank while he served as Board Chairman.

Traditional authorities say the allegations and resulting reputational concerns led to his resignation and eventual removal from the Kwahu Paramount Stool.

Nana Yaw Asante noted that chiefs and kingmakers in the area view the public recognition of the destooled chief at a major state function as an affront to the customs, dignity, and established traditional structures of Kwahuman.

He cautioned state officials,  political actors, and institutions against any attempt to impose Mr. Boadi on the people of Kwahu.

“The chiefs and people of Kwahuman remain resolute in protecting the integrity, customs, and authority of the Kwahu Paramount Stool and will resist any attempt to undermine the collective will and customary position of the area,” he added.

The Okwahu Akyɛame Kuo further urged government institutions, the media, and the general public to exercise restraint and respect due traditional processes, particularly as judicial proceedings on the matter are ongoing before the Judicial Committee of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs.

Nana Yaw Asante emphasized that preserving peace, unity, and respect for traditional authority in Kwahuman must remain a priority for all stakeholders.
