A 37-year-old man, Tibini Atta, has been convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison for defiling an 11-year-old girl at Digangan, a farming community in the Kpandai District of the Northern Region.
According to the Northern Regional Police Command, the incident occurred on Thursday, September 24, 2026, when the victim allegedly went to a farm with the suspect.
Police said the suspect allegedly had sexual intercourse with the girl, resulting in injuries that required medical treatment.
The matter was reported to the Kpandai Police by the victim’s uncle, Desmond Mulache, 25, a farmer, at about 2:55 p.m.
The girl was subsequently taken to the Kpandai District Hospital, where she was admitted and treated.
Police investigators who visited the hospital were informed by the attending nurse that, due to the nature of her injuries, the victim would be referred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for further medical management.
Atta was arraigned before the Gender Circuit Court in Tamale on Friday, September 25, 2026. He pleaded guilty to the offence and was convicted and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment.
Meanwhile, investigators from the Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Tamale have visited the victim, who is receiving treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.
Police said the victim is responding to treatment and her condition is being closely monitored.
The Police Command said it will continue to liaise with the hospital and relevant stakeholders to monitor her recovery and provide the necessary support.
