Kotoko snatch last-gasp point after Medeama’s early Bbitz at Baba Yara

Kotoko snatch last-gasp point after Medeama’s early Bbitz at Baba Yara

Asante Kotoko staged a dramatic late rally to avoid defeat at home, clawing back from a two-goal deficit to draw 2-2 with Medeama in a pulsating Premier League clash at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.

Medeama exploded out of the blocks, silencing the crowd after just five minutes when Derrick Fordjour pounced on a defensive lapse and smashed in the opener. The visitors doubled their cushion thirteen minutes later, Yussif Mubarik calmly converting from the spot to leave Kotoko reeling and the travelling supporters buzzing.

Kotoko’s first-half frustrations gradually gave way to renewed purpose after the interval. Their lifeline arrived in the 69th minute when Peter Amidu Acquah reacted quickest in a crowded box, blasting home to ignite belief among the home fans.

The tension climbed as Kotoko pushed bodies forward, refusing to accept defeat. Their relentless pursuit paid off deep into added time when skipper Samba O’Neil soared high to plant a powerful header into the far corner in the 95th minute, turning the stadium into a frenzy.

The showdown was statistically even in possession, but Kotoko’s 20 shots to Medeama’s nine told the story of their attacking intent. Both sides shared seven and five shots on target respectively, underlining the competitive nature of the contest.

Medeama were moments away from claiming top spot but instead remain second after successive draws, while Kotoko’s winless run stretches to three matches, offering mixed emotions despite the spirited comeback.

Up next, Kotoko head to Hohoe United seeking a long-awaited victory, while Medeama prepare for a tricky test against Berekum Chelsea as both teams look to rediscover winning momentum.
