Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease (STD). It is contracted from having an unprotected sec from an infected person.

You may have heard people call it “the clap.” Both men and women can get it, though men get it more often than women.

Dr. Eric Amoah of Aid-Life Herbal Research Clinic at Ashaiman has advised the general public to as a matter of urgency go for a check-up to know their status on gonorrhea and seek early treatment because it is not a respecter of persons.

Speaking on Plan B Fm health show APOMUDEN Fie with Nkosuohene, Dr. Eric Amaoh stressed that without early treatment, gonorrhea can cause serious and long-lasting problems such as Increased chance of getting HIV, Infection in other parts of your body like your skin or joints and Infertility in men and women.

He said gonorrhea can also infect the eyes, throat, or joints without showing no signs or symptoms.

“Again, Gonorrhea symptoms in men are usually, burning when you pee, Painful or swollen testicles, and white, yellow, or green discharge from your penis, and symptoms in most women don’t have symptoms. If they do, they’re often mild which may include, burning or pain when you pee, bleeding between periods, More vaginal discharge than is typical, Pain in your belly, and pain when you have sex” he stated

He again stated that,  one can get gonorrhea from any kind of sexual contact, including, anal intercourse, oral intercourse (both giving and receiving), and vaginal intercourse, so using protection, abstinence, and treating gonorrhea with your partner is the best practice.
