Key suspect in deadly Ablekuma bullion van robbery arrested in Togo

Aflao District Police Command has arrested key suspect in the deadly Ablekuma Fan Milk Robbery incident, in Togo.

According to police sources, on Saturday July 15, 2023 about 7:00am, Aflao District Police Command gathered intelligence that one of the suspects in Ablekuma bullion van robbery case has been spotted in Asigame market in Lome, Togo.

Based on the information the District Crime Officer DSP Eric Vondee led Inspector Gabriel Damadzi, Martin Afari Koranteng and Corporal Issah Ayamba and proceeded to Asigame market Lome Togo and with the assistance of Togo Interpol, arrested suspect Blessing Njoma a Nigerian.

The suspect was searched at the spot but nothing incriminating was found on him.

The suspect was taken to Togo Interpol Headquarters and when his body was searched old bullet scars were found on the right shoulder.

According to him, he was shot in Nigeria in 2014 in a fight.

Police is making efforts to search his place of abode before bringing him to Ghana.

Meanwhile , Callistus Amoah, the policeman killed during the robbery was buried today .

He was promoted posthumously by the Police Administration.

His promotion from Lance Corporal to General Corporal took effect from June 22, 2023.

The promotion was announced during a pre-burial service at the St. George Catholic Church in Tesano, Accra, to honour the slain police officer on Friday morning, July 14.

General Corporal Callistus Amoah was killed in a bullion van robbery incident at a fuel filling station at Ablekuma on June 22, 2023.

The attack occurred when the bullion van made a stop at the fuel station, presumably to purchase fuel or pick cash.

It was during this moment that the assailants attacked the vehicle.

Fortunately, the driver of the van managed to escape unharmed.

Some suspects have reportedly been arrested and put before court .
