The family of a Kenyan woman who had been working in Egypt for eight years is seeking justice following reports that she was killed in Alexandria, Egypt, on Friday, September 23.
Wangoi refuses sexual advances
Grace Wangoi from Kapkoi sisal near Moi’s Bridge in Kitale, Trans Nzoia countywas a caregiver of an old Canadian man before his son, who lives in Canada, visited him in Egypt.
Speaking to TUKO.co.ke’s Linda Shiundu, Wangoi’s sister, Tabby Wanja, who is also working as a domestic worker in Saudi Arabia, said they received the news of her sister’s death from a friend.
“I have a sister who is in Egypt Cairo, she was working in a new house, there was only an old man in the house to care for then the son of the old man came from Canada,” said Wanja.
“He started assaulting my sister when my sister declined, he hit her on the head with a blunt object my sister fell and died,” added the sister.
According to Wanja, when the man realised he had killed Wangoi, he threw himself from the 13th floor of the apartment and died instantly.
A statement from the agent who got the job for Wangoi said she heard about the position of taking care of the old but healthy man from a friend, and she qualified for it.
The 32-year-old woman reported to the house on Wednesday, September 14, and shortly after, she complained about the man’s son to her agent, saying he was bothering her and complaining a lot.
” I sent a message to the man’s family about that guy asking who he was since they said there was only an old man in that house and suddenly there is a son and he is bothering Grace,” she said,
The old man’s family responded by saying the son would be leaving in a few days and that Wangoi should be patient; everything would be okay once the son left.
Wangoi did not complain again until the following evening when she sent several voice messages to her agent and tried calling her, but the agent was asleep and did not hear her phone ringing.
Agent learns of Wangoi’s death
The agent woke up in the morning to disturbing messages from Wangoi and also from Wangoi’s husband, saying her phone was not going through and wondering what might have happened.
The agent also said she received a message from her driver saying that the old man’s family was asking for Wangoi’s passport because she had died.
According to her, she was immediately convinced Wangoi was killed, judging from the messages she had sent to her at night.
” I receved a phone cal from the police saying that night, the guy had hit Wangoi with something on the head and threw himeslf from the 13th floor. So both of them are dead,” she said.
Wangoi’s family is appealing for help to have Wangoi’s well preserved in Egypt as they plan on repatriating her body.
They are appealing to help raise KSh 300,000 for preservation and another KSh 500,000 for repatriating the body.
TUKO.co.ke previously reported a family in Malindi was in agony and pain after their 22-year-old kin died under mysterious circumstances in Saudi Arabia.
Celine Kanzu is reported to have died in the middle-east nation just days after she sent her family distressing videos and audio from a hospital.
According to a report by Citizen TV, in the videos, Kanzu was struggling to breathe, and she was in a hospital where she said she had been neglected.
