Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has been granted approval for his Green Card I-485 petition by a United States Immigration Court, according to a press release issued by his legal representatives, Minkah-Premo, Osei-Bonsu, Bruce-Cathline & Partners.
The statement said the court considered evidence relating to actions taken by Ghana’s Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), including its earlier decision to declare Ofori-Atta a fugitive from justice while he was reportedly undergoing medical treatment in the United States. The release further noted that his lawyers remained in communication with investigators in Ghana during the period.
According to the court’s findings, the criminal charges against Ofori-Atta in Ghana were deemed “not credible.” However, the legal team clarified that the ruling was made within the context of U.S. immigration proceedings and focused primarily on whether Ofori-Atta satisfied the legal requirements for adjustment of status.
The statement was signed by Justice Kusi-Minkah Premo, counsel for Ken Ofori-Atta, and dated June 16, 2026.
The development is likely to generate renewed debate over the ongoing investigations involving the former finance minister and the actions of Ghanaian authorities in pursuing the case.
