An Accra Circuit Court has remanded Bilyaminu Ibrahim, a media worker, and journalist Mohammed Musah into police custody over an alleged GH¢800,000 fraud involving a Ghanaian resident in the United States of America.
Ibrahim is accused of posing as a spiritualist and collecting money from the complainant, Tourwana Katakarauo, through claims that the funds were needed for sacrifices and other spiritual activities to avert attacks against her and her mother.
Ibrahim and Musah have been charged with conspiracy to commit crime, defrauding by false pretence, and harbouring a criminal, respectively.
The prosecution alleges that Ibrahim worked with Katakaraou Jabiru, who is currently at large, to obtain the money from Tourwana. Jabiru reportedly told Tourwana’s sister, Fawuziya Issaka, that he knew a spiritualist who could help resolve her challenges, after which Ibrahim allegedly assumed that role.
The two allegedly collected GH¢800,000 from Tourwana in instalments, later claiming that her late father had incurred a debt and that an unknown person intended to haunt her spiritually.
In 2023, after Tourwana’s mother suffered a stroke, the suspects allegedly collected additional money, claiming they could provide spiritual protection and redirect a similar attack to its supposed sender.
The matter was eventually reported to the Police after family elders failed to resolve it. During investigations, Ibrahim allegedly admitted posing as a spiritualist, and Police recovered GH¢49,000 from him.
The prosecution said Jabiru fled to Togo after Ibrahim’s arrest but returned to Dodowa in September 2026, where he stayed with Ibrahim and Musah. When Police visited Jabiru’s residence on October 1, Musah allegedly told them Jabiru had gone out and later texted him, “Don’t come to the House.”
Musah reportedly admitted sending the message because he did not want Jabiru to be arrested. Jabiru remains at large.
Ibrahim and Musah are expected to reappear before the court, presided over by Joseph Kunsong, on October 20.
Musah denied the charge of harbouring a criminal.
