Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has been elected National Chairman of the party at its National Delegates Conference held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3, 2026.

Mr Boadu, who polled 2888, emerged victorious ahead of former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, 2048 votes, and former National Chairman Paul Afoko, who polled 490 votes.

His election formed part of the NPP’s national executive elections, which brought together more than 7,000 delegates to elect officers to nine national positions.

Mr Boadu’s victory followed a last-minute alliance with Sammy Crabbe, who stepped down from the chairmanship race and urged his supporters to vote for Mr Boadu.

Mr Crabbe announced the alliance on Saturday as voting got underway at the conference.

Mr Boadu had also been among the leading contenders in several pre-election surveys conducted ahead of the election.

Meanwhile, Justin Frimpong Kodua has been re-elected as the NPP’s General Secretary.

Mr Kodua secured 4,486 votes in the fiercely contested election.

Former Member of Parliament for Ngleshie Amanfro, Sylvester Tetteh, followed with 1,340 votes, while Eugene Boakye Antwi and Dr Charles Dwamena polled 162 and 126 votes respectively.

Abanga Fuseini Yakubu was also elected the NPP’s National Youth Organiser. He polled 1,550 votes to defeat five other aspirants who contested the position.

Alfred Kumi Ababio polled 25 votes, Vera Oye Bram-Larbi had 44, Michael Osei Boateng secured 78, while Clement Opoku Gyamfi polled 631 votes.

Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei Asamoah, the then Deputy National Youth Organiser, polled 46 votes.

The elections form part of the NPP’s efforts to elect new national executives to lead the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
