Some irate youth nearly lynched two young men for allegedly stealing some items from a shop at the Sunyani Zongo in the early hours of Monday.

The Ghana News Agency (GNA) gathered from residents that luck eluded the suspects, who are within their 30s, and popularly known in the neighbourhood as ‘Lord Bans’ and ‘Pope Skinny’ when they attempted packing a refrigerator and other items they reportedly stole from the shop.

During a visit to the neighbourhood, the GNA learnt, the suspects were subjected to severe beatings, however, some concerned bystanders rushed to rescue them.

The suspects were later handed over to the Police.

Meanwhile, the residents at the Sunyani Zongo expressed concern about the growing trend of petty theft and burglary in the neighbourhood, and therefore, appealed for Police to intensify night patrols in the area.
