iOS 14 To Be Released Later Today, But Will The Update Work On Your iPhone?

The iOS 14 release date is here! The Apple September event revealed that the next iPhone operating system update would be coming a day later on September 16.

While the event revealed new products like the Apple Watch 6 and iPad Air, the iPhone 12 was nowhere to be found. That fits rumors that the next batch of Apple phones wouldn’t be announced until a second event in October.

Whether or not the iPhone 12 line comes out then, iOS 14 will be available very soon for most of the recent iPhone models in the past four years.

New iOS 14 features include widgets on the home screen which break up that stagnant tiled-grid-of-apps look, long-awaited picture-in-picture so you can watch videos in the screen corner while doing other tasks, and digital keys to unlock your car with your iPhone.

While Apple didn’t unveil the iPhone 12 at WWDC, developers got a version of the iOS 14 beta especially for them, with a public beta for consumers following in mid-July. But the full release will make iOS 14 available to everyone.

We have the iOS 14 release date details below as well as the compatibility list of which phones can update to the new software (hint: everything including and after the iPhone 6S).
