Lautaro Martinez scored the only goal as Inter Milan defeated cross-town rivals AC Milan 1-0 in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League (UCL) encounter at the Guiseppe Meaza Stadium on Tuesday.

The Argentina international striker’s second half strike ensured Simeone Inzaghi’s side won the tie 3-0 on aggregate.

Inter put on a gritty performance to limit AC Milan to just one shot on target, and the home side left it late on the night, with the winner arriving on 74 minutes.

The deadly duo of Romelu Lukaku and Martinez combined for the goal, with the former finding the latter in the box to power home a low shot that squeezed past Mike Maignan in Milan’ goal to set the 80,000-strong crowd agog in celebration.

Martinez, captain on the night, saw another strike tipped over minutes later and his side saw out the remainder of the match for their fourth win over AC Milan in all competitions this season.

More importantly, the victory also sees Inter advance into their first UCL final in 13 years, since winning the trophy in 2010.

They await the winner of the second semi-final tie between Manchester City and Real Madrid on Wednesday.
