Importers & exporters express disappointment in govt over high taxes

IMF urges Ghana govt to stop borrowing from its central bank

The recent passage of the Excise Duty Amendment Bill 2022, the Growth and Sustainability Levy Bill, 2022, the Ghana Revenue Authority Bill 2022, and the Income Tax Amendment Bill 2022.

The financial bills presented to Parliament by the government seek to rake in about 4 billion Ghana Cedis annually as part of domestic revenue mobilization.

The bills are also crucial to aid the government’s quest to facilitate the Board Approval for the $3 billion International Monetary Fund (IMF) Programme staff-level agreement.

Reacting to this on Plan B FM Monday April 10, 2023 holiday edition of the morning show NKOSUONSEM, Mr. Adu Gyamfi an importer/exporter and a trader stated that Nana Akufo Addo and his NPP government has disappointed them with high taxes and it is collapsing their  business.

He emphasize that the govt promised to eliminate all the nuisance taxes introduced by the NDC government when they were campaigning  for power in 2016 and 2020 but now the recent three new taxes passed by the parliament is more than what they claimed was nuisance taxes in the NDC’s regime.

“I voted for the NPP but now nothing can change my mind to vote for the NPP again because what they are doing is not what they promised”. He fumed
