Immunize your child to avoid disability and death – Parents advised

Immunize your child to avoid disability and death – Parents advised
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Immunization is a process by which a baby or a person becomes protected against a disease through vaccination.

Ms. Sophia Mckeown Babby an officer from Disease Control and Surveillance Unit at the Tema Polyclinic has stipulated that Immunization has helped reduce infant mortality.

She said there has also been a significant fall in morbidity rates of vaccine-preventable diseases such as measles and poliomyelitis.

“The benefit of immunization is that your child has the best possible protection against dangerous diseases which can give parents peace of mind”

Speaking on Plan B Fm’s family, relationship, and lifestyle show dubbed NYANSAPO FIE, hosted by Dr. Michael Asenso on the topic “Child Immunization” Ms. Sophia Mckeown Babby said, as children develop they’re exposed to many risks, one of these risks is infections, most of these will cause mild illnesses. However, despite great medical advances, the infection can still cause severe illness, disability, and, at times, death.

She explained that parents should take Immunizations seriously to protect their children from serious diseases and also prevent the spread of those diseases to others.

Immunizations, or vaccines as they’re also known, safely and effectively use a small amount of a weakened or killed virus or bacteria or bits of lab-made protein that imitate the virus to prevent infection by that same virus or bacteria.

When you get immunized, you’re injected with a weakened form of (or a fragment of) a disease.

This triggers your body’s immune response, causing it to either produce antibodies to that particular ailment or induce other processes that enhance immunity.
