A tax expert Dr. Alex Apaabeng has said that the second tranche of the money may not come if China refuse to agree with the debt restructuring program.

Speaking on Plan B FM morning show NKOSUONSEM, Nana Yaw Abrompah, the tax expert stressed that debt restructuring is part of the IMF conditionalities so if China refused to accept Ghana’s proposal on the debt restructuring program.

He said the expectations of some Ghanaians that the government will abolish some taxes in the recent mid-year budget review presented by the finance minister Ken Ofori Atta did not materialized because the government needs money to settle its debts.

“Government could abolish some taxes like covid, pollution e-levy in 2024 after there is some space for relief on government’s expenditure.”
